So how does a hush-hush subject like masturbation get a month of its own? Well, it started in 1995 in San Francisco as a response to the forced resignation of U.S. Surgeon General Joycelyn Elders. After a speech at the United Nations World AIDS Day in 1994, an audience member asked Elders about masturbation’s potential for discouraging early sexual activity. She answered,“I think it is something that is part of human sexuality and a part of something that perhaps should be taught.”
That was the end of the first black Surgeon General’s Washington career, but the beginning of National Masturbation Month. The founders of San Francisco based sex toy and education shop Good Vibrations said, "Enough is enough!" They wanted to do two things: keep up the conversation about Elders unjust firing and make people talk about masturbation.
Masturbation has its power, place and purpose. Wonderful benefits of masturbation include:
- Improves the immune system.
- Relieves stress
- Builds a defense to yeast infections in women.
- Relieves back pain.
- Relieves the symptoms of PMS and eases menstrual cramps.
- Helps to ward off prostate infections in men.
- Acts as a natural sedative.
- A great mood booster that supplies plenty of endorphines.
- Increase your sexual awareness and intimacy with your partner.
- Can help you achieve orgasm during intercourse.
- Plus more you can discover...
Today the knowledge of Masturbation Month is growing like wild fire just like the sacred sexuality community and the growing awareness that sex heals and gives life.
So you've got a reason for living again. Indulge yourself within yourself, plunge into your own sexual portal and explore and discover your sexual depths. Connect with its currents and ride the waves. And while you're at it, consider using eco-friendly erotic toys for your sex-sensual pleasure. Many rubber sex toys contain phthalates, a family of chemicals linked to reproductive defects and hormonal disruptions. The problem with phthalates is that they break down over time and release harmful gasses, which cause toys to discolor, become sticky and take on an unpleasant taste and odor. Although research has been inconclusive about potential health risks linked to phthalates, some studies indicate they may cause reproductive defects and hormonal disruptions, especially in infant males. In 2008, Congress approved a nationwide ban on phthalates in children’s toys.
Enjoy the process of self mastery during this Masturbation Month!
